The son of Charles Black and Mary McRee Black. Brigham Young baptized him in the Mississippi River. He married Mary Hunt in 1861. He ran large herds of cattle across Utah. He played the snare drum and violin. He was Justice of the Peace in Oxford, Idaho. He was a carpenter and plasterer. A fall from a wagon killed him.
