Emerit was born in Somers Ct. in 1815, and was the daughter of Israel and Rhoda (Crane) Allen. Little is known of her childhood. She met Marvin Kibbe around 1837, and married him on April 15th, 1838, in East Windsor Ct. The new couple made their home in Somers Ct. where they were both born. Marvin's only child Angeline was born in February of 1839, and was only 9 month's old when her father died. Marvin died on Emerit's 24th Birthday, (Nov. 10th)in 1839. Emerit raised the child alone until she was about 7 years old. Oscar T. Kibbe married Emeret, his cousin Marvin Kibbe's widow, in 1846. Emeret, and her 7 year old daughter Angeline, then went to live with Oscar on the Kibbe Farm. Oscar and Emerit would have 6 more children after that. Shortly after the Civil War broke out in 1861, Oscar entered the Union Army. He returned to his family from the war in 1865, to work on the farm. Emerit died Nov. 24th, 1890 while still living in Somers. Oscar died 4 years later. They are buried together.
