Oscar was born the third of the 6 children of Erastus and Esther Kibbe. The family was from Somers, in Tolland County Ct. Oscar and his siblings were all born and raised on a farm in Somers. Oscar married Emerit, his cousin Marvin Kibbe's widow, in 1846, after Marvin's death in 1838.
Emerit, and her 7 year old daughter Angeline Kibbe, then went to live with Oscar on the farm. Oscar and Emerit had 6 more children after that. Shortly after, the Civil War broke out in 1861, Oscar entered the Union Army. He enlisted as a Private on August 14, 1862. He served in Company K of the 14th Regiment of the Connecticut Infantry. He returned home from the war in 1865 and worked on his farm. He collected a military pension for injuries received during the war. Oscar's beloved Emeret died in November of 1890. Oscar died 4 years later. They are buried together.
Their children all were born, and grew up on the farm, as did Oscar. Monroe appears to have died at birth. Nothing is known about Albert's life. Rosa married a Mulroney. Cordelia married and became Cordelia Day. Delina married and became Delina Castle. She lived with her brother Allen, on the family farm, in her later years. Allen worked the family farm for most of his life. Angeline married her 2nd cousin Corydon Kibbe who was a farmer. They lived the rest of their lives in Hampden Ma.
