Erastus was the second child born to Lemuel and Love (Pearson) Kibbe. He was just an infant when his father left to enlist with the rebels to fight in the American Revolutionary War. His father returned from the war, and the family quickly grew to 7 children. Erastus worked on the family farm in Somers, where he was born. When he was 29 he married Esther Kibbe, his 3rd cousin, once removed. Erastus had a new home built on his farm in Somers. Esther and Erastus gave birth 6 children, while living on the farm. Erastus died in Somers in 1848. Esther died there 5 years later in 1853.
As for their children. Erastus Jr. never married. Norman married Maria Roxana (Pease) Durkee and spent his life on the home farm. Oscar served in the Civil War, and spent much of his life on his farm as well. Lovey married Isaac Keeney in 1835. Dorothy married Henry Hiram Wolcott of South Windsor, and Harmon simply disappeared. The first Love Kibbe either died at birth or shortly thereafter. Most of Erastus & Esther's family are buried in North Cemetary, Somers Ct.
