Samuel was one of the original proprietors of Ridgefield, drawing lot 2 when the new town's land was divided in 1708. He sold the property to his father 15 Aug 1710 for 30 pounds and settled in Wilton just south of the Wilton-Ridgefield boundary on a tract of land known as Hop Meadow. This land was granted to him 15 Dec 1709 by the Norwalk Town Meeting in exchange for the erection of a belfry on the town hall
