Charlene Hines, 65, of Livonia, MO, passed away at the University Hospital in Columbia, MO, on Friday, May 27, 2016.

D. Charlene (Hatfield) Hines was born near Graysville in Putnam County, MO, on April 15, 1951, the daughter of Noble and Eithel (Richmond) Hatfield, who preceded her in death. She was reared in Putnam County although she did travel to Washington with her parents during the harvest season in that state. She moved to Rockford, IL, at the age of 15 to live with her sister Shirley. There she met and married Jerry VerKulien in 1968.

Charlene moved back to Putnam County in 1972 and she was a stay at home mom. Later she worked at Heatalator and Wells in Centerville. She and Jerry later divorced. Charlene began and painting and wall paper business with her good friend Sandra Miller in 1982 and Charlene continued in that business until ill health slowed her down in 2015. She also owned and operated “Hilltop Ceramics.”

Charlene married Rocky Lee Hines on December 25, 1994 and he preceded her in death on February 7, 2005. Charlene liked to garden and can her garden produce. She also liked to cook for lots of people. She loved to fish and had lately began to sew. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She also taught lots of kids in Livonia how to play baseball.

Charlene is survived by two daughters, Tina VerKuilen of Livonia, MO, and Tiffaney White and husband Mark of the state of Iowa. Her companion Donnell Moore also survives. Her six grandchildren are Dexter (RaDonna) Bartmess, Dylan Rollins, Harley (Sheena) Wheeler, River Wheeler, Hunter White, and Rayven White. Great grandchildren are King and Alizeigh Bartmess and Stephanie Wheeler. She is also survive by brothers Lonnie (Dorothy) Hatfield of Yakima, WA, and Jerry (Sharon) Hatfield of Centerville, IA, and by sisters Marilyn Kellison of Unionville, MO, and Darlene Hatfield of Ft. Madison, IA. Two sisters-in-law survive: Sharon Hatfield of Unionville, MO, and Gladys Hatfield of Yakima, WA.

Charlene was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Hatfield and Bill Hatfield and a sister, Shirley Kohler.

Funeral services for Charlene Hines will be at Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at the McCune Cemetery east of Unionville, MO.
