It was reported that he was killed by small arms fire. He was born in Fosters, Alabama, on June 6th, 1945. His body was recovered. Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Jerome Bell,24 who was killed in action August 16th in Vietnam will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the New Zion Baptist Church in Northport with the Rev. E.J. James officiating. Burial will follow in the West Highland Cemetery, directed by Rollins Mortuary. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Bell of Tuscaloosa; one daughter, Tracy Bell, age 5 ;one son Jerome Bell Jr. age 7 months; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Murry Wells of Tuscaloosa: two sisters. Mrs. Merelyn Thomas and Mrs. Brenda Wells, three brothers William Stanley Bell, Archie Wells, and Arthur Wells a stepfather and other relatives.
He is the husband of Mrs. Annie L Bell, 78B McKenzie Court, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He is the Son of Mr and Mrs. Archie Bell,1516 North 10th Street, Birmingham, Alabama.
SSGT Jerome Bell served as a Infantryman with Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, USARV.
He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal for his combat wounds, The Army Good Conduct Medals, The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal and The Vietnamese Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
