Martin Aune, one of White Bear Lake's most prominent farmers & community builders passed away at his home on Friday evening, Feb. 7th. Death was due to cancer of the stomach.
The deceased was born at Namdalen, Nordre Trondhjem's Amt, on May 7, 1863 & was 66 years & 9 months at the time of his death. His parents were Mathias & Hanna Aune. He came to this country in 1882, settling in White Bear Township. During the summer he worked on the railroads & farms & in the winter he attended the common schools, the Willmar Seminary & the St. Cloud Normal School. Later he taught at Walden, White Bear Lake, Cyrus, Starbuck, Scandia, Farwell & Devil's Lake, N. D. In 1899, he was married to Emma Larson, who passed away in 1908. In 1911 he married Alida Strangness, who survives him. There are 5 surviving children: Raymond of Elk River, & George, Helen, Arne & Henrik at home. He is also survived by one brother, Beyer Aune of Newell, S. D. & a sister Mrs. Mathilda Christenson of Hector, MN. Two sisters, Henrietta Aune & Mrs. Leslie Scott, preceded him in death.
