William was born in Schuylkill County Pennsylvania in 1840. His baptismal record states he was born 30 Nov 1840, however his death certificate states 1 Dec 1840. He was the son of Abraham and Elizabeth (Hauser) Zimmerman. Circa 1850, William's parents moved from Pennsylvania to Auglaize County, Ohio where they and other family developed strong roots in the area. At the time of his death, William was a retired farmer.
