Barbara Balaun, daughter of Joseph and Barbara Chroust Balaun was born March 16, 1860 in Czechoslovakia and departed this life April 28, 1952 at her home in Delphos, Kansas at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 14 days.

The deceased came to this country from Czechoslovakia at the age of 6 years and made her home in Pittsburg, Penn. When she was 15 years of age, she came with her parents to Kansas and settled on a homestead north of Ada.

She was married to Casper Smith in 1867 and they lived on a homestead in Lincoln County four miles west of Ada. To this union eight children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1926; her children, George, in infancy, John and one daughter Mary. She is survived by her five sons; Albert F of Beverly, Joseph E of Delphos, Fred A of Cabool, MO., Clarence H of Salina, Allen H of Abline, and 32 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

A Rosary service was held Wednesday evening, April 30 at the Fouts Funeral Home in Minneapolis and the funeral was May 1 at 9:30am at St. Paul's Catholic church in Delphos, with Rev Anthony Bevak in charge and burial in the Delpos Cemetery. Pallbearers were Art Lavering, Earl Santner, Herman Krone, Frank Keim, George Krone and Pearl Davis, all of Delphos.
