This community was shocked, Monday, to learn of the death of James McSherry, which occurred in your town. Mr. McSherry was the second husband of Mrs. McCabe, now living at Cooks Run. Her first husband, James Huling, was killed while attempting to board a passenger train at Williamsport twenty six years ago. Her third husband, Mr. McCabe, was killed at Round Island about two years ago.

That article lists survived by a wife, while the one below stated wife was deceased. The 2nd wife was still living. After his death, she remarried to John Shoemaker in 1893 also.

The Renovo Record, Thur., Sept. 6, 1888.

Old Jimmy McSherry, a Veteran of War, Meets Death on Monday.
Mr. James McSherry, aged about 69 years, was struck by Day Express train at the west end of town, Monday morning, about 10 o’clock, and was so severely injured that death took place about an hour after the accident.
It appears that the old gentleman had started to walk to Shintown a few moments before the accident took place, with the view of spending some time among his relatives. After he had walked a short distance from the built up portions of the town, he heard a freight train coming up the track, and in order to get out of its way became confused and stepped over to the adjoining track on which the Day Express train was running east. Before the train could be stopped the unfortunate man was struck and hurled from the track. He was brought to town on the same train and a physician called but his injuries being internal nothing could be done to relieve his condition and he died about 11:30 o’clock. An inquest was held by John Smith, Esq., on the same day.
The deceased was born and reared within three miles of this place. At the breaking out of the late civil war he enlisted and served until the close of hostilities. When he left the army he was a member of Co. E, 93d Regt., P.V., which was attached to the 11th Corps. His wife has been dead for a number of years. He has several grown up children residing near Three Springs, Clearfield county. His remains were buried at Shintown, yesterday.
The Verdict.
"That the deceased came to his death by being struck by the Day Express, a passenger train on the P. & E. Railroad, within the limits of the borough of Renovo, Pa., a few minutes after ten o’clock a.m., on the 3d of Sept. 1888. That it was purely accidental and neither the railroad nor any of its employes are in anywise to blame therefore. Signed by R. N. Martin, Jas. H. Ferguson, E. A. Beck, F. K. Jackson, E. T. Swain, W. C. Weymouth.”
