Born in Portland, a daughter of Capt. Howard S. and Nettie May Kenniston Flash, she was a graduate of Portland High School. She had recently remarried Gary Greeson of Irving.
Ms. Mellen was an active member of Greater Bible Grace Church in South Portland, Maine, and volunteered at Arrow Academy in Hollis, Maine. She enjoyed creating stained glass and knitting.
Surviving, besides her husband, are three sons, John Mellen of Kentucky, Andrew Mellen of Melbourne, Fla., and Edward Mellen III of Portland; three brothers, Howard and Robert Flash, both of Portland, and Godfrey Flash of Tallahassee, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Grace Bible Church, 7 Braeburn Ave., South Portland. Burial will follow in Forest City Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements are by Hay & Peabody Funeral Home, Portland.
