Mrs. Lucy Elizabeth Allen, 71 wife of George Allen of Ft. Covington, passed away at her home on Centre street here Saturday morning at 3:30 o'clock. She had suffered from arthritis for 22 years or more, and was an invalid the major part of that long time unable to walk and confined to a wheel-chair for the past five years. Despite her long illness and because of numerous previous attacks, her death came unexpectedly by her husband and daughter, Mrs. Vernon Tuper, who were with her when the end came. She bore her years of pain and suffering with the utmost fortitude, uncomplainingly for the most part and despite her affliction maintained a calm serenity and cheerfulness toward life. Funeral services were held from
St. Mary's church, with the Rev. Fr. E. H. Dumas, pastor, officialing. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery. Mrs. Allen spent her whole life in Fort Covington. She was born here on October 2, 1883 a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Bashaw, and was a member of St. Mary's church and of its Rosary Society. Surviving besides her husband, are, a son and two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Lena) Robinson of Malone; Lewis Allen, Malone, and Mrs. Vernon (Eva) Tuper of Fort Covington; four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Alonzo Mitchell, Brushton; Mrs. Agnes Simpson, Massena; Mrs. Peter Allen, Mrs. Lewis Allen, Fred Bashaw, all Malone, and Napoleon Bashaw, A sister, Mrs. William Allen, predeceased her.
