Victor R. Givogre died peacefully in his sleep, at home in Butte, on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006.

He was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Wisdom, to Louis and Ada (Fairchild) Givogre. He was raised in Wisdom where he worked in the family store and hay fields until he came to Butte to attend the Butte Business College. On June 19, 1948, he married Marguerite McDougall in Butte.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite; daughter, Shirley; son-in-law, Mel Hoar; grandson, Shane; granddaughter, Rachel; and siblings, Stella Roslosnik, Louisa Givogre, Ada Burke, Pete Givogre, Wilmer Givogre and Clifford Givogre.

Before and after his service in the Pacific with the Army during World War II, Victor worked as a salesman for Ward Thompson Paper Co. from 1935 until 1994. He considered his customers, his friends. He was quick to greet everyone with a smile, a hug and a joke.

His interests included family, fishing, hunting and bowling. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone.

He is survived by his close companion, Katarina Kerner; sister, Wilma Silvester; daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Mike Haggerty of Georgetown Lake, Sharon Hoar of Butte, Vicki and John Evens of Denver and Cindy and Doug Whitmer of Bozeman; grandchildren, Tim and Pam Haggerty of California City, Calif., Dennis and Nancy Haggerty of Texas, Laurie and Glenn Janes of Deer Lodge, Susan and Dave Crowley of Butte, Gary and Kelly Hoar of Butte, Larry Hoar of Butte, Bob and Kerrie Hoar of LaCrosse, Wis., Todd and Tami Hoar of Butte, Debbie and Bart Weber of Ogden, Utah, Jim Fredrickson of Ogden, Matt Evens and Kathleen Evens of Denver, Cody Whitmer of Bozeman; 22 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place in Butte. Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home with Pastor Lanny Rounds officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
