Ann Arbor
Ethel Hilton Armiger was born on July 25, 1912 and died on July 1, 2016, just a few weeks short of her 104th birthday. Ethel was the first of eight children born in Washington, D.C., to Charles V. and Mary Ethel Hilton. She grew up in Washington, married Robert H. Armiger, and together they moved to Maryland. In 1995 at the age of 82, Ethel moved to Ann Arbor and lived at Brookhaven Manor for the next 21 years. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Stearns (Larry) Henkel of Ann Arbor; daughter, Sandra (Alan) Zambreny of Greenbelt, Maryland; grandchildren: Brenda Bond of Winter Haven, FL; David Stearns of Milan, MI; Carolyn Stearns Jull (John Jull) of Hillsborough, NC; and Lauren Zambreny of Germantown, MD. She also leaves six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Ethel was predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert Henry Armiger; son, Robert Charles Armiger; all seven of her siblings; and one great-great grandchild. Ethel was a remarkable woman who accomplished much in her lifetime. She had a career in U.S. Government, serving as administrative assistant to the General Counsel for the Post Office Department. She enjoyed her family and friends in Maryland and adjusted well to life in Michigan in her later years, and she handled the increasing handicaps of aging with grace and dignity. Her family will miss her very much and will always remember her with love. A family gathering in Ethel's memory will take place later this year in Maryland, and her ashes will be buried at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Maryland, next to the grave of her husband.
