Brother Joseph "Jr." Abshire, 62, of Ragley, Louisiana, received his Heavenly reward, Friday, July 15, 2016, at Kinder Retirement and Rehabilitation Center in Kinder, Louisiana. He was born on July 28, 1953, in Sweet Lake, Louisiana and lived in the Lake Charles, Louisiana area for most of his life.

Brother Abshire dedicated his life to preaching the gospel message of his Lord Jesus Christ and teaching Bible lessons. He evangelized for seventeen years and worked with C.A.R.E. meeting groups. Brother Abshire was a great story teller to the old and young and one of his favorite sayings was "I work out to stay strong, but I would rather be stronger in the Holy Ghost." Eating and being with friends was his favorite past time. Brother Abshire loved to laugh and have a good time. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

Survivors include his wife, Elvida Abshire; children, Jolene Cobb and her husband, Forrest, of Lumberton; Susan King and her husband, David, of Vidor; and Robert Abshire and his wife, Kim, of Kinder, Louisiana; and grandchildren, Matthew Kilpatrick of Ragley, Louisiana; Marcus Kilpatrick of Vidor; Brooke Rojo of Lumberton; Sommer Cano and her husband, Juan, of Beaumont; Ashley Quarles of Vidor; and Joan Abshire and Joseph Abshire, both of Kinder, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Leger and mother, Helen Leger.

A gathering of Mr. Abshire's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2016, and 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at First United Pentecostal Church, 230 Smith Street, DeQuincy, Louisiana. His funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the church, with his interment at 4:00 p.m., at Restlawn Memorial Park, Vidor, Texaxz
