CAIRO — Ronald E. Obermeier, 76, of Cairo, formerly of Giltner, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, with his family by his side.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at the Cairo United Methodist Church, 506 E. Kansas St., Cairo. The Rev. Catherine Love will officiate. Lunch will immediately follow the service. Burial with military honors will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family.

Ron was born April 6, 1940, in Grand Island to Ben and Nora (Alcorn) Obermeier. He attended rural schools in Hamilton County and graduated from Phillips High School in 1957.

After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Basic training was in Fort Leonardwood, Mo. He was then stationed in Fort Ord, Calif. He returned to Giltner to help his father on the farm. While farming, he also did electrical work and land leveling. He retired and rented out his farms in 1980.

Ron was united in marriage to Dorothy (Hilmer) Grabowski on Jan. 29, 1983, at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Cairo. After moving to Cairo, he was a crop adjuster for 13 years. Up until his death, he helped at his grandson’s auto repair shop in Cairo.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 300 of Doniphan, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Grand Island and Loup Valley Ducks Unlimited of Cairo.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dorothy, of Cairo; children, Mick (Janelle) Grabowski of Ravenna, Mark Grabowski of Cairo, Michelle (Kevin) Jensen of Boelus, Matt (Pam) Grabowski of Omaha, Joe (Teresa) Grabowski of Cairo; grandchildren, Brett (Steph) Grabowski, John Grabowski, Lisa (Dwight) Jones, Travis (Melissa) Grabowski, Troy (Becky) Grabowski, Kyle (Kasha) Jensen, Brad Jensen (friend Cheyenne Gottsch), Dan Grabowski (friend Erin Mosher), Ryan Grabowski (fiancé Ann Wohlers), Brent Grabowski, Morgan Grabowski, Jordyn Grabowski and Taylor Grabowski; five great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Edna Hilmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Nora Obermeier; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Dora Hilmer; brothers-in-law, Edward Hilmer and Walter Hilmer; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arnold and Marge Hilmer.
