Frances was a Catholic and he evidently joined the Catholic Church which probably did not go over well with his family. In the 1890s he worked for a Chicago streetcar company. About 1900 he joined the police force and was a member of the Chicago 17th Police Precinct. Both of his parents died while visiting him in Chicago, his mother in 1899 and his father in 1903. He died of appendicitis in 1921, at age 50. He was probably the most congenial of the sons in the family.
After Charles died, Frances lived with her sister's family in Chicago.
