Peggy Carr Dodd entered eternal life to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 88. She was born on Monday, October 31, 1927, to Thomas Henry and Minnie Mae (Austin) Carr in Warner, Oklahoma. Peggy graduated from Checotah High School in 1945, and attended Connors State College for one year. She met the love of her life, Harry K. Dodd, the summer of 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas, while visiting her sister. On Saturday, November 23, 1946, she married Harry in Corpus Christi, TX and they were married for almost 70 years at the time of her death. Peggy moved back to Checotah while Harry was in the United States Navy, and started the most exciting journey of motherhood. Through the years, she lovingly served as a pastor’s wife in Medina, Ohio and First Baptist Church of Oktaha, Mounds, Depew, and Green Valley in Checotah. They moved to Depew in the early 1970’s where she attended Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education at the age of 48 years old. Peggy then began her teaching career at Gypsy, Oklahoma, and later taught at Dougherty, Oklahoma, where she retired from teaching. Peggy supported her husband, Harry Dodd, when he worked as the Director of Falls Creek Baptist Assembly for 17 years. At Falls Creek, Peggy managed the medical clinic, giving her all, as in everything she did. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Checotah, Retired Teacher’s Association, an active member of the Checotah Preservation Historical Society, a volunteer at the Katy Depot and a children's Sunday School Teacher. Peggy’s love for people and her Lord was evident in everything she did. Her quiet, gentle strength and fun sense of humor brought joy to those around her. She loved reading and pouring her life into children, but most importantly her life was centered around her Lord Jesus Christ, serving Him alongside her husband and children. Peggy was preceded in death by parents and her daughter, Judy Tinsley. She is lovingly survived by her husband, Harry K. Dodd of Owasso; her daughters, Nancy Milam and her husband Stephen of Tulsa, Becky Carpenter and her husband Robert of Houston, TX; her grandchildren, Melissa McClure and her husband Matt of Tulsa, Amanda Markham and her husband Josh of Bixby, Bethany Kendall and her husband Jarrod of Beggs, Autumn Tinsley and Trinity Tinsley both of Prague, Marci Hammonds and her husband Jesse of Spring, TX and Scottie Carpenter and his wife Katie of North Lake, TX. Peggy is also survived by her great grandchildren, Lily Faye, Maven, Abigail, Amelia, Braden, Blakely, Mariah, Hannah, Amanda, Stephanie, Kylie and Noah; her sister, Juanita Rush of Broken Arrow as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends. As you continue to honor the life of Peggy, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Paul Henry Carr Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 2214, Muskogee, OK 74402-2214. Viewing will be from Noon-7PM on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Garrett Family Funeral Home.
