Katie Esther Peterson took flight, escorted by angels, to paradise. Katie, a longtime Checotah resident died at her daughter's home on Thursday, February 18, 2010. Katie was born in Arkansas on November 30, 1911, the oldest of nine children, to Minnie May (Austin) Carr and Thomas Henry Carr. She married Andrew Peterson in 1930 in Polk County, AR. They were married for forty-nine years. She worked at Swifts in Muskogee and the ammunition depot in McAlester. She retired at age 40 to begin a 58 year career of loving and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a Master Gardener. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family and strangers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them to work hard and persevere with fun, but, tough love. She was a member of the Checotah First Assembly of God and enjoyed attending her ladies Bible classes.Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minnie Carr; her husband Andrew Peterson, brother and WWII hero Paul Henry Carr, sisters Tressie Woodard, Edith Wilson and Irene Schultz and son-in-law Bob Frame. She is survivied by her son, Charles "Red" Peterson of Checotah; daughter Joan Frame of Checotah; sisters Ruth Cox of Muskogee, Peggy Dodd and husband Harry of Tulsa, Lucille Seifert of Corpus Christie, TX and Juanita Rush of Muskogee. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Diane Bertone and husband Bert of Eufaula, Randy Peterson and wife Lana of Eufaula, Pam Steidly of Eufaula, Tim Frame and wife Cindy of Checotah, Bobby Frame of Checotah, and Becky Frame of Checotah; 18 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services for Katie will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Assembly of God in Checotah with Rev. Paul Butler officiating. Casket bearers will be Wayne Phillips, Randy Peterson, Tim Frame, Bobby Frame, Josh Matthews, and Trey Frame. Honorary casket bearers will be Mike Vernon, Willie Clark, Greg Hines, Gary Hogan and the Checotah Police Department. Interment will follow services in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 21, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Hampton Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hampton Mortuary, Checotah.
