Richard E. McKinstry, 72, Corydon, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at his home. Born Nov. 27, 1943, in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of the late Jerome and Ceserina McKinstry. He was an Army veteran during the Vietnam War, previously worked for CSX Railroad and as a Birmingham (Ala.) police officer and, most recently, worked as an electrician and volunteered his time with the Harrison County Horse Patrol and as a Harrison County reserve officer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Alexander Dade McKinstry, and two brothers, Tom and Jerry McKinstry. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Laura McKinstry; three children, Richard J. McKinstry (Kimberly), Sarina B. Waltman (Timothy) and Lee McKinstry (Angela); 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Richard E. McKinstry, 72, Corydon, will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville. He passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016, at his home.
Richard was born on Nov. 27, 1943, in Birmingham, Ala., to the late Jerome and Ceserina McKinstry. He previously worked for CSX Railroad, and as a Birmingham Alabama Police Officer. Most recently Richard worked as an electrician and volunteered his time with the Harrison County Horse Patrol and as a Harrison County Reserve Officer. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Alexander Dade McKinstry; and two brothers, Tom and Jerry McKinstry.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Laura McKinstry; three children, Richard J. McKinstry (Kimberly), Sarina B. Waltman (Timothy), Lee McKinstry (Angela); 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday and following the service until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
