James Wayne Bennett, age 70, of Somerset, KY, departed this life on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at his residence.

Wayne was born on November 5, 1945 in London, KY to the late Gladys Bennett Graham. He graduated from London High School in 1964, and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1969. Wayne is a 20 year veteran of the US Air Force, and retired Transportation Director at Pulaski County Board of Education. He loved working in his yard, the outdoors, and UK Basketball and Football.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie M. Bennett, whom he married on February 21, 1990 in Somerset; three sons, Quentin "Shane" (and Beth Ann) Thompson of San Antonio, TX, Sean Edward Thompson of Somerset and James Wayne Bennett II of Somerset; three daughters, Sharon Lynn Bennett, Tamara Martha Bennett, and Elizabeth Susan Bennett all of Somerset; four sisters, Peggy Williams of London, KY, Martha Jones of Maryville, TN, Dorothy Louise Digby of Powell, TN, and Joan Maxey of Eubank, KY; his grandchildren, Aaron Thompson, Jacob Bennett, Hannah Bennett, Tristen Bright, Shelisa "Lisa" Bennett, LaShonda Malachi, Kristen Ann Walker, and Bethany Wesley.

Along with his mother, he was preceded in death by a special aunt, Eva Ruth Amburgey, who was like a mother; a daughter, Shelisa Louise Thompson; two brothers, Sanford Graham and Trent Graham; and papaw, Charles Elmer Bennett.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 31, 2016 after 5:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Shelby Reynolds and Bro. Johnny Davidson officiating. Burial will be at the A.R. Dyche Memorial Park in London, KY. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38. Pallbearers will be Shane Thompson, Sean Thompson, Jim Bennett, Tristen Bright, Jacob Bennett, Kevin Maxey, and honorary pallbearers, Richard Maxey, and Phillip Bridges.
