Abraham Guevara, 85, joined the Lord on Thursday, July 28, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones.

Abraham was born February 28, 1931, to Guadalupe Guevara and Maria Salaza in San Patricio, New Mexico.

A kind and hardworking man, Abraham spent over fifty years of his life working as a carpenter in the construction business. He bravely served his country during the Korean War. Abraham was an inspiration to those he was around. This was evident by the love, admiration and respect given to him by all who knew him. Abraham was a very loving husband and father, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved working outdoors, on ranches, and spending time horseback riding. He was a man with a great sense of humor and the gift of gab, he could spend countless hours talking about his career as a boxer. Abraham was a big supporter of the "underdog". When he wasn't reminiscing about the "good-old-days", he was joking and playing dominoes with family and friends.

Preceding Abraham in death were his parents: Guadalupe Guevara and Maria Salazar; grandson; Abraham Guevara III; 4 brothers, and 1 sister.

Those left to carry on his heritage are his wife, Geneva Gonzales Guevara of Roswell, NM; daughters: Carmen Atilano and husband, Juan of CA; Betty Guevara and Eddie Montez of CA; Linda Annie Guevara and Ruben Matta of Roswell, NM; and Pita Contreras and husband, Robert of Roswell, NM; sons: Abraham Guevara II; Rudy Guevara and Jane Orona both of Roswell, NM; 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Words can't express the gratitude our family feels for the support, and love we have received from the employees at Gentiva: Hospice Dr. Ferose, Katrina, Jessica and Stacey, throughout this part of Abraham's journey.

A Viewing will be held Monday, August 1, 2016 12:00-6:00 PM. To follow, a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory. Mass celebration will be held at 10:00 AM at St. John's Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow at South Park Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers: all grandsons and Moses Orona.

Pallbearers will be: Richard Toscano, Juan Atilano, JR, Anthony Toscano, David Matta, Robert Contreras, Michael Trujillo, and Benito Sanchez.

Eternal Rest, grant to them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
