Services for Carey Delone Smith of Bessemer, Ala., are 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, at Hartman Funeral Home in McComb with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday, Sept. 9, from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith, 64, died Sept. 7, 2000, at Princeton Hospital in Birmingham. He was born in Ruth on April 7, 1936, to Jake Isaih Smith and Viola Morgan Smith.

He was a heavy equipment operator with Rurel Brown Excavating. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. He was an Air Force veteran, a Mason, and a member of Operating Engineers Local #402.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Leroy "Bill" Smith; and his sister, Tera Cochran.

Survivors are his wife, Gayla Burkey Smith of Bessemer; his sons, Carey Dale Smith and Kevin L. Smith, both of Summit, and Craig S. Smith of McComb; his brothers, J. W. Smith of Monroe, La., Clifford Smith of Texas, Claude Smith of Bogue Chitto, and Frank Smith of Brookhaven; his sisters, Lucille Williamson and Lois Boyd, both of Baton Rouge, Inez Russell of Bogalusa, La., Helen Boyd of Prairieville, La., and Frances Roberts of Bogue Chitto; and six grandchildren.
