Miguel was survived by six sons: Michael, Dennis, Steve, David, Paul and Gerald; three daughters: Cecilia, Theresa and Jessica; four sisters: Carmen Sánchez of Alcalde, Ramona Pacheco of Superior, Arizona, Lydia Mares of Santa Fe and Erlinda García of Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers: Phil Maestas of Monterrey, California and Avenicio Maestas of Santa Cruz; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

A wake service was on 11 June 2002 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of De Vargas Funeral Home. Memorial Mass was on 13 June 2002 at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Honorary pallbearers: Michael M. Maestas, Phil, Avenicio, Ben and David Maestas, Johnny Borrego and all his grandchildren. Miguel was cremated by De Vargas Funeral Home of the Española Valley.
