John, the sixth of eight children of John McQuigg and Mildred Lawson was born in November 1750 at Hillsborough, New Hampshire. John served at the rank of Private during the American Revolutionary War with Capt. Philip Putnam's Company Col. Naham Baldwin's New Hampshire Regiment. John was married twice. He married 1) Molly Gilmore (1650-1771), the daughter of James and Martha (Drennon) Gilmore in 1770 at Owego, New York. They had one child born at New York:
1. John McQuigg (b. 1771; d. 1812) m. 1794 at Spencer, NY, Lucy Lee (1768-1850)
Molly (Gilmore) McQuigg died in 1771 at New Hampshire.

John married 2) Sarah Coburn (1747-1832), the daughter of Jeremiah Coburn (1721-) say 1773 at Litchfield, Hillsborough, New Hampshire. They had eleven children; the first nine born at Litchfield, New Hampshire and the youngest two at Owego, New York:

John McQuigg Jr. died in November 1804 in his 54th year at Owego, and was buried in the graveyard of the first church in Owego, which burned down and the graveyard abandoned. His will was dated 11 November 1804, as is the probate date and entered at Tioga, New York. Children listed included John, Diadema, Elizabeth, Jane, Patience, Rachel, Daniel, David and Sarah.
