Sextus E. Parsons was born August 28, 1826, in Lockport, Niagara County, New York, the 10th child of 11 children of Ebenezer and Hannah Lyon Parsons. He married in Lehman Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, on July 11, 1847, to Caroline Orr, daughter of John and Sarah Brown Orr. They were the parents of 10 children: Emma Delphine, Mary Amelia, Frank Haven, Clarence Orr, Newton Samuel, Jennett S., George Hamilton, Robert R., Ella L. and Eugene Ellis Parsons.


Marriage Certificate of Sextus E. Parsons and Caroline Orr, July 11, 1847:

"This Certifies that Sextus E. Parsons of New York and Caroline Orr of Pennsylvania were by me United in the Bonds of Marriage on the eleventh day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven conformably to the Ordinance of God and the Law of the State of Pennsylvania. Amos Brown, Esqr., Minister of the Gospel."

"To all whom it may concern: Know ye, that Sextus E. Parsons, a member of Captain B. F. Gardner's Company (B) 177 Regiment of Penna. Drafted Militia, who was enrolled on the sixteenth day of October one thousand eight hundred and sixty two to serve nine months, is hereby discharged from the service of the United States this fifth day of August, 1863, at Harrisburg, Penna. by reason of Expiration of Term of Service (No objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist.) Said Sextus E. Parsons was born in Niagara Co. in the State of New York, is thirty seven years of age, five feet six inches high, dark complextion, light eyes, dark hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a carpenter. Given at Harrisburg, Pa. this fifth day of August, 1863. W. L. Pennock (?), Lieut. Caval."
