A bright and wonderful light has suddenly expired from us and expanded into the universe. Alayna Wilcox Beckham passed away peacefully on the evening of August 16, 2016, with family beside her.

Alayna is survived by her husband of 24 years, John Charles Beckham, of Samson, AL, her parents, Betty Jean and Robert Stimson Wilcox, of Machiasport, ME, her brother Dayne Wilcox and wife Kendra Rutgers of Menlo Park, CA, brother and sister-in-law Sonny and Debbie Beckham of Seagrove, FL, niece Karen (Rhett) Deal and nephew Daniel Beckham, special aunt Sally Ann Rasmussen of New Brighton, MN and lifetime best friend, Wendy Bartok of Montrose, PA. She also leaves her much-loved animal children, dog Sofie and bob-tailed cat Cosmo. She was predeceased by her Father- and Mother-in-Law, James Howard Beckham and Oid Ogburn Beckham.

Alayna received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in Psychology. Her special focus was preventive approaches. She worked with employees of CMI earning their GEDs, and then became Executive Director of the Geneva County Family Resource Center, where she worked with both parents and children. Alayna then decided on a change of emphasis in her career and moved on to earn a Master of Art in Illustration and Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art and Design. She especially enjoyed working on the branding packages for companies, creating the artwork and story for each business, often using animals as part of the narrative. Alayna was also creating several children’s books including one about Pork Chop, their Bassett Hound. There was true magic in the lines of her drawings and in her beautiful, and often wacky, humor.

Alayna was one of those very unique, special people who simply lit up those around her, and who got so much out of life. Throughout her life, she showed abundantly her compassion, with her smile and her joy, for others, for animals and plants, and for just living.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Samson First Baptist Church in Samson, AL with Rev. Sam Totten and Rev. Danny Branch officiating. A visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, until service time. Interment will follow in Travelers Rest Cemetery in Samson, AL.
