Milford C. Knudtson, 91, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

He was born on Jan. 27, 1915, in the town of Chimney Rock, Trempealeau County, to Charles and Mary (Evenson) Knudtson. On Feb. 15, 1941, he married Virginia Homsley in Decorah, Iowa. Milford joined the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater during World War II.

Milford was a logger, worked for Neuheisel Lime Co., drove a truck and worked at Land O'Lakes for many years. After his retirement from Land O'Lakes in 1977, he worked for Wilbur Weilep Excavating.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Gilmanton and Gilmanton American Legion Post #264.

Milford enjoyed the outdoors, especially watching the animals. He was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Knudtson, of Gilmanton; five children, James (Mary) Knudtson of Osseo, AnnaMae (Elmer) Rud of Osseo, Goldeen Knudtson of Eau Claire, Nancy Jardine of Mondovi and William (Judy) Knudtson of Osseo; 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers, Raymond Knudtson of Eleva and Orvin (Margene) Knudtson of Eau Claire; a sister, Helma (Frank) Heath of Strum ; a sister-in-law Ethel Knudtson of Strum; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his son, Harold; his parents; two brothers, Ingwald Knudtson and John Knudtson; two sisters, Minnie Johnson and Elvina Helgeson.

Services will be held on Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Gilmanton in Gilmanton, Wis., with Rev. Paul Woebbeking officiating. Burial will be in the Gilmanton Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Gilmanton American Legion Post #264.

Friends may call on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi or one hour prior to services on Monday.
