Helma Mathilda Heath, 88, of the Strum area, passed away on Friday, February 29, 2008, at Osseo Luther Midelfort Oakridge surrounded by her family.

She was born on October 16, 1919, in rural Eleva to Charlie and Mary (Evenson) Knudtson. She married Frank Heath on August 7, 1937, in Osseo, Wis.

She was a full-time wife and mother until later in life. She worked as a nursing assistant at Rustad's in Strum and Osseo Area Nursing Home. After her retirement, she took an art class and enjoyed painting and also writing poetry and short stories until Macular Degeneration made it difficult to continue these hobbies. She also loved planting and caring for her flower gardens. Helma was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and its ladies organizations and the River View Homemakers Club.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Heath of the Strum area; three daughters, Shirley (Ron) Porter of Altoona, Sharon (Gary) Peterson of Eau Claire, Roberta (George) Ross of Strum; two sons, Floyd (Dorthea) Heath of Grand Junction, Col. and Robin (Lisa) Heath of Mondovi; 14 grandchildren, Scott (Patty), Bruce (Susan) and Brad Larson; DeLayne, Darrell (Virginia), David (Shelly) and Dustin Peterson; Michael (Lisa) Heath; Heidi (Ben) Fay; Travis and Nathan (Danette) Ross; Heather (Ryan) Cornelissen; and Denton and Gabriel (Amber) Fox; six stepgrandchildren, Rick, Roger (Lu), Gary and Kenneth (JoAnn) Porter; Cheryl (Jim) Schrofe; and James Anderson; 26 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Knudtson of Eleva and Orvin (Margene) Knudtson of Eau Claire; sisters-in-law, Virginia Knudtson of Gilmanton, Ethel Knudtson of Strum and Adeline Heath of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, Ralph (Arvilla) Heath of Burnsville, Minn.; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Helma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ingwald, John and Milford Knudtson; sisters, Minnie Johnson and Elvina Helgeson; grandson, Jesse Heath; granddaughter, Christine Heath; and great granddaughters, Britta Larson and Makaiya Ross.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum, Wis., with Rev Christine Emerson officiating. Burial will be at the West Beef River Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Eleva and for an hour preceding the services at the Church on Thursday.
