Actor. He will perhaps be remembered for playing 'Henry,' the regular diner patron in the TV series "Alice" (1978 to 1985). Born to Jewish parents in Brooklyn, he studied at New York University and Brooklyn College. With aspirations of becoming a playwright and work in radio, he travelled to California, where he studied Theater at USC. He landed a job as a stage manager at the Circle Theater which led to his initiation as a performer. His break in the industry came, when Katharine Hepburn spotted him during one of the productions and arranged for him to have a minor role as a court stenographer in the Tracy and Hepburn picture "Adam's Rib" (1949). Kaplan went on to have a featured role as 'Alfred Prinzmetal' in the TV series "Meet Millie" (1952 to 1955). He contributed his voice to the character 'Choo Choo' in the animated series "Top Cat" (1961 to 1962) which starred Arnold Stang. Kaplan was paired with Stang again as gas station attendants who are effortlessly tossed around in a memorable, slapstick scene by Jonathan Winters in the madcap picture "Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" (1963). Other films include "The Great Race" (1965) and "Wild at Heart" (1990).
