RUDOLPH VALENTINO SILLE, SR, husband, father leader and friend, was born in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, on December 28, 1931 to Maude Rogers and Rudolph V. Sille. Much can be said of this man, who left an indelible and positive mark on the Virgin Islands, on Scouting and on all who came into contact with him.

Rudy's schooling began at Lincoln School. Early on, he joined the Cub Scouts and his passion for scouting began. Earliest memories of Rudy as expressed by his contemporaries revolve around his involvement in scouting. He was one of the leaders of Troop 54. Later, he became Scout Master of Troop 17, and later Troop 100, serving as a role model to many who were a part of the scouting movement... always giving sound advice in words, as well as, by example.

In 1953, Rudy left St. Thomas for the U.S. Mainland and joined the United States Air Force, where he served until honorably discharged in 1961. While on the Mainland, he attended Lincoln University and Brooklyn College. He also became very much involved with the Boy Scouts of American in New York.

Love for his native Virgin Islands brought Rudy back to St. Thomas in 1960, where he immediately volunteered his much needed leadership skills to the advancement of scouting in the territory. Utilizing skills acquired while in the Air Force, he served for a while as Air Traffic Controller. Then, in 1971, seeking a creative means to mesh his technical training with his interests in music and electronics, Rudy established his own business, Sound Electronics. In 1975, he rejoined the Federal Government, this time in the civilian branch with the Immigration and Naturalization Service, where he served until his passing.

Extremely civic-minded, Rudy was active in the Rotary Club of St. Thomas. He also belonged to several fraternal organization, including the Celestial Lodge in New York and the Masonic Lodge in St. Thomas.
Volumes can be written and much more can be said of Rudolph Valentino Sille, Sr. who dedicated nearly 50 years of his life to his homeland, his country and the scouting movement. Attesting to his contributions and service are numerous awards, certificated of appreciation and recognition by the Virgin Islands Legislature.

In scouting, he earned the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver and the Silver Antelope, the highest awards given by the district, the council and the region respectively. In addition, he held membership in the Order of the Arrow and was the only Virgin Islander to attain the rank of the Four Bead Wood Badger.
Up until the very last, Rudy was doing what he liked best... scouting. He was actively involved in planning, organizing and promoting the 1992 Caribbean Patrol Camp to be held in St. Croix with the expected participation of over 500 young man from throughout the Caribbean.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Arna M.S Sille; one son Rudolph (Val) Sille Jr. two daughters, Giselle and Ethanie Sille; three step sons, Dwight, Sal and Andrew Griffith; two grandsons, Rudolph Sille V and Drew Sille, one granddaughter Sala Sille; three sisters, Valerie V Sille Bingley, Lorna A. Sille Clendinen and Carol Sille; one aunt, Blanche Cid; a childhood guardian, Pearl Ferguson; and many special friends.
