Shelby B. Jones
March 15, 1930 – August 29, 2016
Shelby Brit Jones, 86, of Monroe, passed away at 1:12 a.m. Monday at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rupp Funeral Home. He will lie instate at 1 p.m. Thursday at North Monroe Street Church of God with services at 2 p.m. The church pastor, Rev. Rick Massingill, Rev. Heath Hunter, Rev. Garry Barton, and former pastor, Rev. Fred Cornelius, will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Monroe.
Shelby was born March 15, 1930 in Clio, Kentucky. He was the son of Jim and Mollie (Waldon) Jones. He married Marie Evans July 3, 1954.
He worked for Consolidated Paper for 26 years and then for Monroe Public Schools for 12 years before retiring.
Shelby attended North Monroe Street Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Marie; a son Eddie (Kimberly) Jones of Monroe; a daughter, Karen (Jerry) Barton of Onsted; a brother, Clarence (Wanda) Jones of Corbin, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Andrea (Warren) Wei, Eric (Elizabeth) Barton and Garrett (Kathryn) Barton and a great granddaughter, Loretta Barton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Jesse, Simon, Albert, Crit, Ben, Jason and Edgar Jones and three sisters, Minnie Allen, Delphia Cupp and Ethel Murphy.
