Elizabeth Marie Wessel, 92, Oakley, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter. She was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Norton County to John & Frances (Swingler) Vahling.

She married Francis Wessel on May 11, 1948, in New Almelo. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.

She enjoyed canning fruits, vegetables, gardening and time spent with family and friends. She enjoyed being a host to a group of family and friends that joined her sons in their yearly pheasant hunt. After her younger children were in school, she took a job cleaning rooms at a local motel. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Wessel, Mike Wessel and Patrick Wessel and wife, Annelie; six daughters, Carol Raney and husband, George, Rose Wessel, Mary Zerr, Barb Wessel, Dorothy Graham and husband, Jeff and Laura Palma; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Mary Geraldine and Rose Marie; two grandsons, Jason and Isaac; two son-in-laws, Erwin Zerr and Carlos Palma; four sisters, Agnes, Annie, Francie and MaryAnn; three brothers, Joseph, John and Louie; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Angelus; burial in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul's Catholic Church or Logan County Manor for the maintenance fund in care of Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley.
