She married Victor J. Werth on May 8, 1950, in New Almelo. They celebrated nearly 42 years of marriage before he preceded her in death March 19, 1992.
Growing up on the family farm, she milked cows, butchered chickens, and learned to cook and bake. She was a nurse at the original St. Anthony's Hospital and at Hadley hospital for many years and was a farmwife and homemaker. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed her yard, cleaning, cooking, baking, going for walks, and watching sports on television. She was very faithful and prayed the rosary often.
Survivors include a son, Ron J. Werth, McCracken; a daughter; Mary Jo Werth and Jr. Fisher, Hays; three grandchildren, Amy Hudson and husband, Caleb, Ellis, Lori Hearne and husband, Travis, Bucklin, and James Werth and wife, Jen, Hays; two step-grandchildren, John George, La Crosse, and Wade George, Rush Center; eight great-grandchildren, Luke, Eli, and Noah Lohrmeyer, Ellis, Hunter and Gunnar Hearne, Bucklin, and Laine, Emerson, and Hadleigh Werth, Hays; a step-great-grandchild, Preston Palmer, Hays; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Werth in 1976; and three brothers and five sisters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601. A vigil/ rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to nursing students at both Fort Hays State University and North Central Kansas Technical College., in care of the funeral home.
