CENTERVILLE - Louise V. Petrasko of Centerville and Cheshire, CT, passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on Aug. 20, 2016. Born Louise Doane on July 21, 1923 in Milton, she was raised in Weymouth.
She was married to her beloved husband Charles and lived most of her life in Cheshire, CT, where she raised two children, vacationing frequently in Chatham with other family members at their homestead and cottage. Graduating from Weymouth public schools, Louise continued her education in a post-graduate secretarial school, afterward employing her accounting skills and love of cooking as Director’s Assistant for the Cheshire School Lunch Program from which she retired in 1992.
Louise was the matriarch of the family, exhibiting superb homemaking skills from sewing, to cooking and baking, leaving a legacy of special desserts for her heirs to carry on. She loved to play cards, the piano and organ, cook, garden, dance and sing. She was among those dubbed “Rosie the Riveter” for being one of the first women to work on the Corsair at Chance Vought Aircraft from 1942 to 1943, where she met her husband Charles.
She was an active member of the First Congregational Church and Ladies Aid in Cheshire, CT. She traveled to Hawaii, Canada, Europe and throughout New England. She was renowned for her calm and peaceful demeanor, wisdom, loving heart and beautiful singing voice, often accompanying herself on the organ.
She is predeceased by her husband Charles and sister Phyllis Doane Mckenna, of Braintree and Chatham. The daughter of the late Rachel (Taylor) and Edgar Doane, Louise traces her roots to the Mayflower passage through Richard Warren, one of the first English settlers on Cape Cod.
Louise leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life: son, David C. Petrasko and wife Georgia (Hyannis); daughter Gail Heigel and husband Roger (Waterbury, CT); grandchildren; Michael Petrasko and fiancée Christine Fussel (Marstons Mills), and Tammy Davidson and husband Scott (Taunton). Louise also leaves several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many extended family members whom she loved dearly and who will miss her.
The family wishes to thank all the staff and administration who made Louise’s stay at Cape Regency of Centerville her home for the past three years. They also thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Cape Cod Hospital, as well as Hope Hospice for their caring end-of-life services.
Viewing and reflection to honor Louise will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham 02633, followed by an interment ceremony at Seaside Cemetery in Chatham. Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend.
