McALLEN, TEXAS - Lionel Alva Jr., 57, died Saturday, September 3, 2016, at McAllen Heart Hospital.

Born and raised in McAllen, Leo fulfilled his lifelong passion of airplanes by becoming an Aviation Mechanic. His motto was “Keep ‘em flying.”

He is preceded in death by his mother, Dora P. Alva; a sister, Ana Laura Alva; and his grandparents, Pablo and Amelia Alva, Polo and Lile Palacios.

Lionel is survived by his wife, Annette Alva of McAllen; three children, Bobby Hatcher II, Robanne Williams, both of McAllen, Randall Hatcher of Angleton; his father, Lionel Alva Sr. of McAllen; a brother, Eddie (Sylvia) Alva of San Antonio; two sisters, Sally (Pablo) Guerra of McAllen, Mari (Cande) Saenz of Pharr; nieces and nephews, Emelda (Bryan) Murphy, Evan, Erin and Caleb Alva, all of San Antonio; Jacob and Molly Guerra of McAllen.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Celebration of Life Monday, September 5, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Renaissance Transplant Institute, 5501 S. McColl Rd., Edinburg, TX 78539.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
