Charles E. "Charlie" Raffensberger, 94, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Charlotte E. (Sowers) Raffensberger who died on August 18, 2016.
Mr. Raffensberger was born in York on Tuesday, November 28, 1922, son of the late Clarence E. and Katie I. (Cunningham) Raffensberger.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served under General George Patton in the 691st Tank Destroyer Battalion. Charlie was employed by Met Ed as a Line Foreman for 34 years, retiring in 1977.
Memberships include being a life member of Union Lutheran Church, York, Met Ed Retirees Group and the 13th Ward Political Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynne E. Holder of York and Lisa E. Snyder of Red Lion; two grandchildren; one step grandchild; three great-grandchildren; one step great- grandchild; and a brother, Clair M. Raffensberger of York. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Paul Raffensberger.
Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Union Lutheran Church, 408 W. Market St., York. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Joel Folkemer. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Mount Rose Cemetery.
