Charlie N. Havens, of 0334 Massachusetts, died at 1:07 a.m. Tuesday at Newton Memorial hospital, where he had been admitted Monday.
He was born Jan. 5, 1895 in Washington County, Ark., the son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Havens. He was brought to the Eaton community when 1 year old. The family later moved to the Wilmot community and since 1944 he had lived in Winfield.
He was married to Mary Huffmaster on April 20, 1921, at Fayetteville, Ark. She died Jan. 6, 1958. Survivors include 2 sons, Sherman of Arvin, Calif., and John of Winfield; a brother, Bert Havens, Wilmot, and 7 grandchildren.
He retired 3 years ago after service as a grain inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was known to many as an old-time fiddler, especially at the time of the Kansas Centennial. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Swisher-Taylor funeral home
