William Franklin "Frank" Atwood Sr was born on July 5, 1894 at Grand, Smith County, Tennessee, and he was the son of Moses Thomas Atwood (ca Oct 1859– ) and his wife Florence Elizabeth (Minnich) Atwood (1866–1955).

He was married to Myrtle Mae Halpin (1900–1964), the daughter of William Halpin and Demarus (Post) Halpin.

Living in Nashville, Davidson County, Frank was 80 years old and a widower when he passed away on January 23, 1975 at a local hospital.

Survivors included daughters Mrs Jane Felts and Mrs Mary Lou Scribner in Nashville and Mrs Ann Syvarth of New Jersey, sons Edwin E Atwood, Richard Lewis Atwood and Robert Turner Atwood all at Nashville, Dr Wesley Atwood in Memphis, Tennessee, Don Atwood of Mount Juliet, Tennessee and William F Atwood Jr at Chicago, Illinois, twenty-nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and sisters Mrs Minnie Biggs and Mrs Beulah Reeves in Nashville.

Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
