At the time of my Great-grandfather's birth the municipality was "Oost Dongeradeel." "Dongeradeel" came much later with depopulation and is a quite recent development. In 2019 there was yet another consolidation into a new municipality, Noardeast-Fryslân.

Walter is a De Vries name. Wouter was his Holland/Dutch name, being the 2nd boy born he was named after his maternal grandfather, Wouter de Vries. his mother had the patronymic of Wouters. In the native tongue (Frisian) his name would be "Wolter."
