Okotoks Review May, 1909

It is with the deepest regret that The Review has to announce to the readers this week that the grim reaper has been again busy in our midst. On Sunday morning at 3:00 a.m. Mrs. Chas Morrison one of the most universally beloved among the older residents of Okotoks passed away to the great beyond.

The deceased lady had been ill for six weeks with typhoid fever. She was practically over the attack of fever and hopes were entertained of her recovery, but her system was so weakened that she was unable to rally her strength and finally passed away in spite of the upmost that could be done and nothing was spared to assist in her recovery.

The funeral was held from the residence of her son-in-law, A.G. Malm, on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30.

The funeral service was performed at the house by Rev. Dr. McIvor and Rev. G.G. Webber and concluded at the grave. The pallbearers were A. Rowles, Donald Morrison, Geo. Thompson, A. Patterson, Jos. Hogge, and H.E. Beattie. A large number of the residents of Okotoks were in attendance to pay the last tribute of affection and respect.

The floral tributes were numerous and handsome. The following sent flowers;
Husband, Jimmie and Ethel, Jessie and Arthur, pillow; Alberta Hotel staff, wreath; cook and kitchen staff, spray; Dr. and Mrs. Welsh, wreath;
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Thompson, cross; Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Beattie, cross; Mr. and Mrs. Knowles, spray; Mr. and Mrs. S.R. Hodson, spray; Mr. and Mrs. G. Paterson and Miss G. Paterson, cross; Messrs. P.C. Kes, R. Thompson, W. Henderson, A.P. Aylesworth, wreath; Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Cochrane, wreath; Messrs. Strallendorf & Deakins, wreath; Ladies of Methodist church, sheaf; Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Auger, spray; Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Rowley, star.

The deceased lady was born in Stephenson County, Ill., in 1858 and was only 51 at the time of her demise. She was married in 1877 to Chas. Morrison and came to Canada with her husband and children nine years ago and has resided in Okotoks 9 years. She leaves behind her to mourn her loss a husband, one son James and one daughter, Mrs. A.G. Malm.

The late Mrs. Morrison was one of the most unselfish and kind hearted women and a devoted wife and mother. She was always ready to assist in any way she could in every laudable private or public object and her willing heart and ready hand will be sadly missed for years to come. In religion she was a Methodist and a staunch and strong supporter of the church.

The above obituary was also printed in the Freeport, Illinois paper with the following introduction;
"The following notice regarding the death of Mrs. Chas. Morrison, who died in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada is from the Okotoks Review. Mrs. Morrison was a native of Stephenson County. Mrs. B.N. Lincoln of 32 South Street is a sister-in-law of the deceased, and Joseph Morrison, also of this city, is a brother-in-law."
