RUTLAND MAN DIES IN CRASH AT TUNBRIDGE, VT.

J.R.Humphreys, 24, Killed When Car Skids Shortly After Leaving Fair.

TUNBRIDGE, Vt., Sept. 21-- JOHN R. HUMPHREYS, 24, of 76 Plain street, Rutland, Vt., was killed at 5:40 p.m. today in an automobile accident, a few minutes after he left the Tumbridge Fair.
State police said the young Rutlander died moments after his car skidded off the highway on Route 110 and rolled over into a ditch. The accident happened about two miles south of the fairgrounds.
Humphreys was driving his two door sedan when he met his death, becoming Vermont's 62d highway fatality in 1951. He was driving alone at the time of the mishap.
Humphreys' body was removed from the scene of the accident on orders of Tunbridge selectman, John Howe. He was pronounced dead by Dr. Wilfred Elliott.
The body was moved temporarily to the Boardway and Cilley Funeral home in Chelsea.
Police said the death car went off the left side of the road while rounding a medium sharp curve. The vehicle was almost totally destroyed. Humphreys died of what state police quoted Dr. Elliott as saying were severe internal injuries.

Humphreys, who worked as a foundryman at Howe Scale company in Rutland,Vt, was born September 13, 1927, in Poultney, Vt., a son of Evan and Katherine Rowland Humphreys. He is survived by his parents; two sisters; Mary and Joan, both of 76 Plain street,Rutland, Vt.; a brother, Owen, also of Rutland, Vt; and a grandfather, Ellis W. Rowlands, of Poultney, Vt.
The body will be taken to the Spencer Funeral home in Rutland where friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Spencer Funeral home.
Burial will be in Poultney.
