Obituary – William Macomber
The death of William Macomber occurred at his home 24 Anderson place yesterday noon. He was taken ill Saturday night and influenza developed into pneumonia. Mrs. Macomber, was taken ill one day later, is critically ill, pneumonia having also developed.
Mr. Macomber was born in Alabama N.Y. November 4, 1857. For 32 years he had been in practice here as patent attorney. He was a lecturer on the law of patents in the school of law, Sibley college, Cornell university, where he succeeded the late Albert H. Walker.
Mr. Macomber was widely known by the legal profession and was the author of a legal work on “The Fixed Law of Patents.” This had been published in two editions and he was working upon the third at the time of his death. He was also the author of an engineers’ handbook of patents. At the time of his death he was acting as special master in an accounting of a patent infringement suit between two rubber companies, which is said to involve several hundred thousand dollars. He had finished taking testimony in this on the day he was taken ill.
His body will be taken to Hamilton tonight, for burial there. No funeral services are allowed here, the home being under quarantine. Besides his widow, he leaves a nephew, Francis M. Macomber, an attorney in Rochester and a cousin, George Macomber of Washington. Mr. Macomber was a member of the Delaware avenue Baptist Church and taught a large Sunday School class.
