POULTNEY, Vt.
MRS.MARY HUMPHREY.
Nov.5--Mrs. Mary Lewis Humphrey, 86, died yesterday morning at her home on York street. Mrs. Humphrey fell and sustained a broken hip about a week ago from which she never recovered. She had been a resident of Poultney for more than 40 years. She was born March 31, 1846 in Maentwrog, North Wales, the daughter of Hugh and Ellen Thomas Lewis. The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Welsh church. The burial will be in Poultney Cemetery.
Mrs. Humphrey is survived by four sons, Evan and Thomas Humphrey of Granville, N. Y., Humphrey Humphreys of Pennsylvania and Robert Humphrey, and by two daughters, Mrs.Griffith (Elizabeth) Ellis of Whitehall,N.Y. and Anne Humphrey Jones of Poultney.
She was predeceased by her husband Evan Humphrey and daughter Anne Humphrey, both buried in Maentwrog, North Wales, and sons, Owen Humphrey and John L.Humphreys.
Note the two different birth dates, the grave stone list 1843, which I think is right, her obituary listed 1846.
ps.This was my great grandmother. Everyone knew her as Nain Humphrey. Nain (nine)is welsh for grandmother.
