He confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Sulphur Springs Missionary Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving mother, Mrs. Susanna Sims of Hamilton, Mississippi, and a long life friend Ms. Mary Jackson of Chicago Heights, Illinois, two sons, Manuel Whitfield, Jr. (Erica) of Amory, Mississippi, James Whitfield (Jessye) of Chicago Heights, Illinois, a loving daughter Shashanna Whitfield of Chicago Heights, Illinois; six brothers, Willie George Whitfield (Earlean), Donald Sims of Hamilton, Mississippi, Lee Sims, Jr. (Barbara), Augustia Sims (Ressie), Alforzinie Sims (Evelyn) all of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters, Everlena Sims and Lindsay (Fletcher) of Hamilton, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Ceneca Whitfield, Ceyairra Whitfield and Jamesia Whitfield of Chicago Heights, Illinois,; four aunts, Mrs. Cordelia Hampton and Mrs. Earlean Morgan of Aberdeen, Mississippi, Mrs. Carrie Will Smith and Mrs. Cora Lee Williams of Hamilton, Mississippi, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
