Florence Spalding, age 96, of Talhina, OK, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2016.

U.S. Veteran ~ Florence "Flo" Spalding, age 96, longtime Haworth , OK resident passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016 in Talihina, OK.

She was born on February 28, 1920 in Haworth, OK, the daughter of Alex and Sibbie Byington McClure.

She married Paul Lester Spalding in Washington, DC on June 21, 1956 and he preceded her in death in 1982.

Flo attended Wheelock Academy, Haworth Elementary and High School, Goodland High School and Hillhouse Secretarial School. She also attended several Military Service Schools and received her Associates in Arts Degree from Maryland University.

She was a veteran of WWII, joining the Women's Army Corp in 1944. She attended basic training at Fort Oglethorpe, GA. Flo received an Honorable Discharge on July 2, 1946.

She then went to work for the US Civil Service in Washington DC and retired in 1983 as a GS 12. Flo had a combined 38 years of service between the military and her work for the Civil Service.

After coming back to Oklahoma she was very active with the Choctaw Nation helping fellow Choctaw Veterans.

Flo loved her family and was especially close to her siblings and nieces and nephews. Florence was a very charitable person. She was a member of the Idabel First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and an infant brother, Grayson McClure.

Florence is survived by her sisters, Isabel Clampet of Haworth, OK, Pauline Lee Foye of Edmond, OK, Betty Hunkapillar of Talihina, OK, Geraldine Yearley of Newcastle, OK and Virginia Dodson and husband Roy of Guthrie, OK; a special niece, Sandra Holt and her husband, Jim of Talihina, OK; several additional nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the White Family Chapel in Idabe, OK.

Her cremains will be placed at Arlington National Cemetery beside her husband.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the USO or Salvation Army.
