Daughter of John Carter, widow of Pleasant Carter, Sr., she died at her residence of 'La Grippe,' an archaic term for Influenza.

Her death certificate states she was 84 years, 6 months and 1 day old. Her son Jesse was the informant.

Sarah and her sister Mary Isabella appear on the 1850 census in Crawford County's Jennings Township in the household of their stepfather, Curtis Smith, who married their mother Hannah, in 1846 after their father had passed away.

Sarah married Pleasant Carver on 06 Oct 1853 in Crawford County. They later resided in LaRue County, Kentucky where her husband passed away of Typhoid Malaria.

On the 1880 census, she appeared as the widowed head of household at Sibera in LaRue County, Kentucky with her seven surviving children: Daniel, Samuel, McClelland, Pleasant Jr., Jesse, Mary, and Walter.

Sarah appears on the 1900 census in Crawford County's Jennings Township with her sons Jesse and Walter. She was enumerated as 'Serrah' Carver and gave her birth information as August, 1848 in Indiana (however, on the 1850 census her mother stated Sarah had been born in Kentucky and her sister Isabella in Indiana). On the 1900 census Sarah also related she was then the mother of ten children, seven of whom were still living.

Sarah reports her birth information on census records as:
1850: b. abt 1835 in Kentucky
1860: b. abt 1836 in Kentucky
1870: b. abt 1834 in Kentucky
1880: b. 1838 in Kentucky
1900: b. Aug 1848 in Kentucky

Her sister Mary Isabella first married Pleasant's brother Daniel Carver. On the 1860 census, the two couples were living next to one another at Brandenburg in Meade County, Kentucky; Sarah and Pleasant were incorrectly enumerated under the surname 'Moreman,' while their children were correctly listed as 'Carver.'
