DeAlva "DeDe" Bennett Roberts, age 88, of Blackshear died Tuesday evening at the Baptist Village (Ware Co) after an extended illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Pierce County.

She was preceded in death by her husband James L. Roberts, Jr. and her parents James Lawton Bennett and Mamie James Bennett, a grandson Scotty Roberts and two brothers J. N. Bennett and Dorsey Bennett.

Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker and a longtime active member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear. She was a member of the Alert Sunday School Class and the women's ministries of the church. She was also a member of the Blackshear Women's Club.

She is survived by her 2 sons James L. Roberts wife Dottie, and Barry Roberts wife Ellen all of Blackshear, 4 grandchildren Jay Roberts wife Laura and Johnathan Roberts all of St. Simon's Island, Jenifer Roberts of Savannah and Chris Roberts wife Kami of Blackshear, 2 brothers J.L. Bennett, Jr. of Mershon and Harold Bennett wife Mary of Mershon, 3 sisters Adeline Meeker husband Everett of Danville, Il., Mamie Severin husband Reed of Waycross, Melda Van Iderstyne husband Dick of Jekyll Is., Ga., a sister-in-law Oletha Bennett of Mershon, brother-in-law J.R. Black of Abilene, Tx., and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 11AM Friday at First Baptist Church in Blackshear. Burial will be in the Blackshear City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 9pm at Smith Funeral Home in Blackshear.

The family request that memorials be made to First Baptist Church in Blackshear or to Baptist Village.

The Alert Sunday School Class and the Blackshear Women's Club have been asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers and are asked to be at the church by 10:45am on Friday.
