Mrs. Dessie Melda Bennett Van Iderstyne, 85 of Jekyll Island, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012, at her residence.

Born in Mershon, GA on February 3, 1927, she had lived on Jekyll Island since 2002. After graduating from Blackshear High School, Mrs. VanIderstyne went on to pursue her career as secretary for Plant Engineering at Brunswick Pulp & Paper Company. It was at Brunswick Pulp & Paper that she met her future husband, Richard Paton VanIderstyne. After working for six years, she chose a more exciting career, traveling the country, followed with rearing a family & being a help mate to her husband.

Mrs. VanIderstyne was a member of Jekyll Island Presbyterian Church and was a daughter of the late James Lawton & Mamie Alice James Bennett. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, DeAlva Roberts and Adeline Meeker, and three brothers, Newell Bennett, Dorsey Bennett and J. L. Bennett.

Visitation:
Visitation for Mrs. Van Iderstyne will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.

Service:
Funeral services for Mrs. Van Iderstyne will be held at 11:00 o'clock Wednesday morning, August 1, 2012, at the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Ramah Cemetery.
